Questions

Can I try Photism before I buy it?

Yes, two ways. photism.app/online runs three scenes free in your browser, no download and no account. Photism Lite is the same three scenes as a free Max for Live device, so you can run it inside Live.

Which DAWs does it work with?

Any DAW that hosts VST3 or Audio Unit plugins: Ableton Live, Logic Pro, FL Studio, Bitwig, Reaper, Cubase, Studio One, GarageBand, and the rest. Ableton users also get the Max for Live device. No DAW at all works too: the standalone app listens to your interface or mic.

Does it work with Ableton Live Standard or Intro?

Yes. Every edition of Live hosts the VST3, Intro included. Suite and Standard-with-M4L owners can run the Max for Live device as well, which adds the 16-macro automation bank.

Do I need a Mac?

No. Photism runs on both macOS and Windows.

Can I automate the visuals from my arrangement?

Yes. The device is sixteen assignable macros, each a real Live parameter. Right-click any control in the panel to map it to a macro, then draw automation on it like any synth knob. Load a preset and every knob follows it.

Will you keep adding new modes and improvements?

Yes. Photism is in active development, and new scenes and modes ship as free v1.x updates once you own it.

Can I record the visuals to share?

Yes. Capture clips straight from the renderer with the audio baked in, ready to post or drop into a set.

What resolution do recordings save at?

It matches your window, capped at 1080x1920 for 9:16, 1080 square for 1:1, and 2560x1440 for 16:9, all at 60fps.

What if I lose my download link?

Get it back any time at photism.app/redownload. Enter the email you bought with and the link comes right back. The same link always serves the latest build.

Do I need an internet connection?

No. Everything runs locally on your machine. The browser renderer talks to the device over localhost. Nothing is streamed or uploaded.

Will it slow down my Live set?

The audio analysis is lightweight and the heavy lifting happens on your GPU in the browser, outside Live.

Does Photism use flashing lights?

Yes. Photism makes bright, fast, flashing visuals, which can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. If you are playing to an audience, warn them that the show includes flashing lights. The HEAT, REACT, and BRIGHT controls turn the intensity down live, and section 21 of the manual covers this in full. See the terms.
